MISSION

At Swimming Elephant we believe that through learning about others we begin to understand ourselves. Our mission is to create multimedia projects that explore a wide array of world cultures; projects that advance awareness and understanding, and reveal the myriad forces and influences that connect us. By investigating the cultural aspects of globalization, we celebrate and reveal our interconnectedness in creative, engaging and exciting ways.

As the country with the greatest ethnic diversity, it is ironic that we in the United States are often unaware of the many fascinating cultures that are thriving within our borders. While technology has made the world a global village, there is still an abundance of beliefs and traditions that remain largely unknown to many Americans.  These traditions which have greatly influenced American ways of thinking, inspired popular art and music and have been strong driving forces behind our literary development, are still fundamentally obscure.  Swimming Elephant believes that when we learn about the philosophies, art and traditions of different populations of Americans and of people across the globe, we build a bond of understanding that can help us live more peacefully with our neighbors, both at home and abroad.
